About
Ann Frankland · BSc Hons TCM, Dip Nat & Acu · 25+ Years Nursing Background
My name is Ann and I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathy and Acupuncture with the College of Naturopathic and Complementary Medicine, London in 2002, followed by a 4 year degree course in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Middlesex University, London.
I graduated with a First Class BSc Honours degree in TCM in 2008 and was awarded the University’s Ellis Snitcher prize for Integrative Medicine. Whilst studying for this degree I completed a Diploma in Tuīná (Chinese therapeutic massage) at the Asanté Academy of Chinese Medicine.
Clinical Training in China
I have visited China both to travel and work, and studied at both the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University and The Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, gaining insight into various in-patient specialties such as Rheumatology, Nephrology, Paediatrics, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Internal medicine, together with the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Outpatients department.
25 Years Nursing Experience
Prior to establishing my own TCM practice I was a qualified nurse. Although no longer registered, my nursing career spanned some 25 years, specialising in intensive and hospice care. My experience taught me the value of examining the underlying causes of current symptoms, whether they are physical, emotional/mental and/or spiritual. This Western medical exposure provides an invaluable underpinning of knowledge to my work.
Fertility & Antenatal Practice
I have a particular interest in, and am a passionate advocate of, the use of TCM in the treatment of fertility issues for men and women – whether that be enhancing their natural fertility or supporting couples undergoing conventional Western-assisted conception programmes. I am also experienced in providing acupuncture for women throughout their pregnancy and in the post-natal period. My commitment to fertility and obstetrics has led me to undertake in-depth post-graduate training in these areas.
Between 2012 - 2015 I co-founded and managed Maternity Acupuncture Support, an antenatal acupuncture clinic based at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage in Hertfordshire. The active encouragement of a number of the Obstetric and Gynaecological Consultants at the hospital led me and my business partner to establish Fertility Acupuncture Support – a dedicated fertility acupuncture clinic also based at Lister Hospital.
Professional Memberships & Accreditations
I am a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (AAC), and affiliated to both the Acupuncture Regulatory Authority (ARA) and the British Acupuncture Federation (BAF), professional bodies that require their members to be properly qualified, to abide by strict Codes of Ethics and Good Practice, and to have full professional indemnity.
